Motorola Touchless Control can now read you your notifications

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

The premiere software addition that Motorola has put on the Moto X and new DROID lineup is Touchless Control. The voice command options tie in deeply to Google Now, but also add options on top of Googles offerings; and today, the Touchless Control app was updated with a nice new way to easily have your notifications read aloud.

This has been an odd option that we expected long ago, but never showed up. The thing is that Motorola Assist will read your notifications aloud while youre driving, but there hadnt been a way to have your notifications read out through Touchless Control voice commands. Now, you can. All you need to do is use either the command, "Read notifications," or if thats too much for you, just say, "Whats up?" And, the option is available in U.S. English, Spanish, and Italian, and is in beta in other supported languages.

The update also adds a nice improvement to the system that offers "enhanced end-of-speech detection for improved accuracy and faster responses." While the Moto Touchless Controls have been very good at filtering out background noise and capturing what youre saying, if there is speaking in the background it will keep listening, but this update should fix that.

The update requires Android 4.4, but all compatible Motorola devices have KitKat updates available, so you should be good there.
