How to create a new photo album

Want to organize the pile of snapshots sitting in your iPhone’s camera roll? Try this: just create a new album or two, then start sorting.
There are actually a couple of ways to make a photo album on your iPhone or iPad: one is to create a new, empty album and then start adding photos to it, while the other is to select one or more images first and then create a new album.

Just tap the photos you want to add to a new album, then tap the “Add To” button.

Here’s how to get started…

• Let’s begin by selecting some photos and adding them into a new album. Tap the Photos icon from your iPhone’s or iPad’s home screen, tap the Albums tab, select Camera Roll, then tap the Edit button.
• Now, it’s time to pick some photos. Tap a few—as many as you like—then press the “Add To” button at the bottom (on an iPhone) or top (on an iPad) of the screen.
• Next, an “Add to New Album” button will appear. Go ahead and tap it, then type a name for your album in the pop-up window. If you’ve already created some new photos albums on your iPhone/iPad, you’ll see an “Add to Existing Album” button in addition to “Add to New Album.”
• Finally, tap the “Save” button, and voilà—your new photo album will appear at the bottom of the Album list.

Want to create a new album first and then start adding photos to it? No problem.

• From the Album screen, tap the “+” button sitting on the top-left corner of the screen.
• Name your new photo album and tap “Save.”
• If you’re using an iPad, you’ll next see a screen of images from your Camera Roll; tap to select photos to add to your new album, then tap the Done button when you’re finished.
• On an iPhone, tap a photo album from the list that appears, then start tapping photos to add to your new album. You can also pick and choose from your Photo Stream by tapping the Photo Stream tab at the bottom of the screen.

Bonus tip

You can rearrange or delete photo albums on the iPhone by tapping the Edit button on the Albums screen. On the iPad, just tap, hold, and drag a photo album to rearrange it, or tap the Edit button and tap the little “x” on an album to delete it.
Oh, and one more thing: Keep in mind that you can delete an album without trashing the photos inside it.

Reset the “furthest page read” of a book you’re re reading

Thanks to the Kindle’s handy “Whispersync” feature, you can start reading a book on, say, your Kindle Fire, then pick up right where you left off on another Kindle-friendly device, like an Android phone or iPhone.
But if you try to re-read a Kindle book that you finished a year ago, your various Kindle devices will want to jump to the very last page you read—meaning, most likely, the end of the book—even if you only re-read to Chapter 2 the other day.
Ugh.
The good news, though, is that you can reset the “furthest page read” for any Kindle book you wish.
Once that’s done, the Kindle’s Whispersync feature (which also keeps track of your bookmarks, highlights, and notes) will essentially forget the last page you read in a given book and start over—and yes, that means you’ll again be able to jump back and forth between your various Kindle devices without losing your place.

You can reset the “furthest page read” for a given Kindle book from the “Manage Your Kindle” settings in your Amazon account.

Here’s how…

• Log onto your Amazon account from a desktop browser, hover your mouse over the “Your Account” tab, then select “Manage Your Kindle” from the drop-down menu.
• Browse your Kindle library until you find the book you’re re-reading, or just type the title into the search box.
• Once you’ve found the right book, click the “Actions” button on the right side of the page and click the “Clear furthest page read” option.
• Now, the next time you open that particular book, the first page it opens to will become the “furthest” page read as far as your Kindle devices and apps are concerned.

Game Design as a Catalyst For Learning

Over the course of this school year, I have been fortunate enough to share ideas on technology integration with Judy Wilson, my children’s principal at P.S. 3 in Staten Island, NY.  Many of these conversations focused on my own son’s use of technology as a catalyst for creativity, problem solving, and critical thinking developed by playing Minecraft and using iMovie to storyboard and create his own movies.  These conversations eventually led Judy to include Nicholas in a pilot program at the school where students would be creating virtual reality games after the regular school day.  As someone who loves educational technology and knowing how much my son does as well, my wife and I figured this was an unbelievable opportunity that couldn’t be passed up.

After participating in the program for over three weeks, Judy invited us to see firsthand what the students had been doing.  This was where I finally learned about VR Quest™ developed by Warren Black.  Warren developed this program for middle and high school students, but Judy convinced him that elementary school students could do it.  With the help of teachers who stepped out of the box to work with the kids – Justine Kostenbader (Technology) and Mr. James Laieta (Language Arts) – the after school program was born.  The resulting pilot consisted of mostly fifth and fourth grade students as well as just two students in the second grade.  I cannot begin to explain how excited I was when I found out that my son Nicholas was one of the two second grade students authentically engaged in the design of games to solve complex programs.

VR Quest™ is a fun and educational project-based learning (PBL) model that integrates fully immersive Virtual Reality technology.  It enriches students’ lives by offering computer and real-life skill instruction delivered through comprehensive projects in the subject areas of science, history and social studies.  Each VR Quest™ project has a specific content area as its "lead" theme. As the project unfolds, a myriad of other subject areas and disciplines are woven into the mix to create a rich and challenging cross-curricular experience. VR Quest™ students work as a team to create a Virtual Reality multimedia environment. They develop a vested interest in their project by becoming an integral part of a production crew and participating in a challenge or theme, which relates to their own lives. Creating their virtual worlds helps students develop skills in game design, art, storytelling, 3-D animation, computer literacy, research, reading, problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. Upon completion of the project, students enter their virtual worlds via a head-mounted display and interact with their creations.

The two lead themes that students could choose from were ancient Egypt and Mars.  Can you guess which theme most of them chose?  The entire activity is connected to the Common Core and consists of seven specific steps:

1. Define objective
2. Brainstorm
3. Research on Macs
4. Storyboard by hand
5. Build the interface
6. Pilot test of game created
7. Take completed project home to play

Below is a video highlighting the work done by these students.

It was so exciting to see what my son and his classmates had created.  It was apparent from their presentations that the project focused on essential skills sets (communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, global awareness) and was thoroughly engaging.  Just watching these young children line up to play each other’s games and explain what they had created at 7:00 PM was a testament to the effectiveness of this program.  I commend both Judy Wilson and Warren Black for providing my son with this enrichment opportunity.  Now I have to work on brining this amazing program to the students of New Milford High School.

How to jump back many web pages at a time

To get back to where you were five pages ago in a desktop browser, you can just glance at your web history or—better yet—click and hold the Back button.

Just tap and hold the Back button, then tap the page you want to jump back to.

But what if you want to jump back several pages in a single bound with Safari for iPhone or iPad?
Believe it or not, you can do pretty much the same thing you’d do on a desktop browser: just tap and hold the Back button.
When you do, a pop-up will show more than two dozen of your previously viewed web pages for a given Safari tab.
Tap any page to jump back to it.
And yes—you can also tap and hold the Forward button, if you wish.

Cram a bunch of files into a single “zip” archive

Got a bunch of little files that you want to send to a friend? Well, you could always drag them all into an email and send them as attachments, but talk about messy.

Think of a zip archive as a suitcase containing a series of smaller files. Just select the documents, photos, or other files you want to compress, then “zip” them up into a single, tightly packed archive that’s smaller than the overall size of the originals.
Both Mac and Windows systems have their own, easy-to-use archive utilities. Indeed, they’re only a right-click away from your desktop.
The downside to creating a zip archive is that there’s no easy way to see what’s inside an archive folder—or at least, there’s no easy way using the “native” archive utilities in Mac OS X and Windows.
That said, there are plenty of third-party apps (such as WinZip, perhaps the most single popular “shareware” utility of all time) that will inspect the contents of a zip archive, among other things.
So, ready to start zipping? Here we go…

For Mac:

• First, select the files you want to compress into an archive. You can also select an existing folder if you wish, or even a combination of files and folders.
• Next, right-click the selected files and/or folders and select “Compress” from the pop-up menu.
• In a few seconds or so (depending on the size of the files you’re compressing), a file titled “Archive.zip”—containing copies of all the files and folders you just compressed—will appear on your desktop. Meanwhile, your original, uncompressed files will be sitting right where you left them.
• Go ahead and rename the archive file (click its icon, click its name, and then start typing), then feel free to move it anywhere on your hard drive or send it to a friend.
• To “unzip” the file, simply double-click it; when you do, your Mac will decompress the archive automatically.

A simple right-click is all it takes to create a “zip” archive in Windows.

For Windows:

• As on a Mac, first select the files and/or folders you want to stuff into a zip archive.
• Right-click the selected files, select “Send to” from the pop-up menu, then select “Compressed (zipped) Folder” from the secondary menu.
• After a few seconds, a file titled “New Compressed (zipped) Folder” will appear, containing copies of all your zipped files. If you want to rename the archive, now’s a good time to do so (right-click, then select “Rename” from the menu).
• Unlike on a Mac, Windows will let you take a quick peek at the files compressed into a zip archive; just open the archive folder to see a list of your archived files. Keep in mind, though, that you won’t be able to preview the contents of a particular file.
• Want to unzip your archive? Right-click it and select “Extract all,” or open the archive folder and click the “Extract all files” button near the top of the window.
• You can also pluck individual files out of the archive, if you wish. Just open the archive folder, select a file, and drag it onto your desktop.

Want to create an empty archive folder first, then add files to it later? On a Windows PC, you sure, can.
Just right-click on your desktop, select “New” from the pop-up menu, then select “Compressed (zipped) folder” from the secondary menu.
Once the empty zip folder appears, just open it, then start dragging and dropping files.

How to Send Receive SMS in Chrome Without A Phone

Ever gone to work or class but forgot to bring your phone along? What options would you have then? Well, you can borrow a colleague or a classmate’s phone for emergency texts or calls, but there is no way to receive the messages that are sent to our phone. If you have access to a computer then you can use your other online social networks to communicate with friends but what about those who are not comfortable using this method?

How about using your Chrome browser to manage your SMSes without even using your phone? Well, we’ve found out that you can do that with MightyText, aptly known as Texty. MightyText is an Android application that will synchronize your SMSes with a Chrome browser via an extension. This allows you to use Chrome to send and receive your SMSes during emergencies like this.

To prepare for this, download MightyText Android App on your phone from Google Play.

When the installation is complete, open the app and complete setup by connecting MightyText with your Google account.
Then install MightyText Chrome Extension on your browser.

Once installation is done, you will be prompted with a notification telling you that you can start sending and receiving SMS from your Chrome Browser. An icon has now been added to your browser. Click the MightyText icon.

After clicking MightyText icon, you will be prompted with your account status: you are not logged in to your Google account. Click on the link to sign in using your Google account.

It will redirect you to a new page to allow the access. Click ‘Allow’.

Once the access is granted, you will see a popup at the top right corner of your computer screen notifying you about how many messages have been received since you installed the Android app. Now every time when you received SMS, you will see this popup.

That said, you can now start sending and receiving SMS from your computer right in your Chrome browser. Anytime you need to use the application, open your Chrome browser and click on the MightyText icon to view the MightyText SMS page.

At the top bar, there’s a notice to sync your contacts. Click to sync MightyText with your Google contacts so that the mobile numbers will appear as your friend’s names instead of their numbers. To compose new messages, simply click the ‘Compose New’ button.

Conclusion

You will be able to use MightyText with your Chrome browser as long as you are connected to the Internet. Note that even if you are sending SMS from your browser, you will still be charged with the standard SMS fee. This is just one of the many ways Chrome is making your life a whole lot easier.

How to add a contact to your Android home screen

Who needs phone favorites when you can just add a one-touch shortcut for your most important contacts, friends, and loved ones to your Android phone’s home screen?

Add a contact shortcut to your Android phone’s home screen for one-touch access to phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, and more.

Good question—and indeed, the ability to pin a contact directly to your home screen is such a no-brainer that I can’t believe it’s still not possible on an iPhone (or not without a third-party app, at least).
Anyway, adding a shortcut for a contact to your Android phone’s home screen is a snap.
Here’s how…

• Open the People app on your Android phone, then browse or search for a specific contact. (Note: these steps may vary depending on the make and model of your Android phone. I tested this tip on a Samsung Galaxy Nexus running on Android version 4.2.2.)
• Found the right contact? Tap the name, then tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the screen.
• Tap the “Place on Home Screen” option.


You can add a contact to your Android phone’s home screen in just a few taps.
• Go back to your home screen to find the new shortcut for your contact. Can’t find it? If your main home screen is too cluttered, your contact may be sitting on a secondary screen; just flick left or right to shuffle through them all.
• Tap the shortcut to get a pop-up window with a menu of phone numbers; tap one to make a call, or tap one of the little messaging icons on the right to compose a new text message. You can also tap the Gmail, Google Maps, and web tabs for email addresses, street addresses, and relevant URLs.
• Don’t want a particular contact shortcut on your home screen anymore? Tap and hold it, then drag it up to the “Remove” icon near the top of the screen.

Bonus tip

Want to take all the contact icons on your various home screens and group them together? Just tap, hold, and drag one contact icon on top of another to create a new home-screen folder, then give it a name (like “My Favorites”).

Grade Change Moving a School Culture Forward

Recently Jeff Fiscina, one of my math teachers, submitted a guest post on my blog that emphasized some of his grading practices that best support and promote student learning.  That post got me thinking about the process we went through to assist Jeff in developing and embracing his current grading practices as well as that of other teachers.  It was about a year ago that I decided to tackle the grading culture here at New Milford High School, which wasnt much different than the majority of schools across this country.  Any administrator that has moved to change long embedded grading philosophies and practices knows full well how difficult this change process is. However, it was apparent that current behaviors and actions had to be changed based upon the latest research and what was best for our students.

When I initially broke the news to my staff about the journey we were about to take to change the grading culture it was met with a great deal of skepticism, questions, and resentment.  Like I said earlier, change in this area is extremely difficult.  During the initial conversations I presented the work of Douglas Reeves, Rick Wormelli, and others to serve as a foundation for this systematic change.  The conversation focused on some difficult questions such as what does a letter grade actually mean and how do you measure student learning.  After some initial focus on where we currently were as a school and where we really needed to begin moving towards I asked for volunteers to sit on a committee to help establish new grading guidelines and support structures that focused on student learning. It should be noted, however, that some components of this new philosophy were non-negotiable because if everything was then the change we were looking to implement and desperately needed would never occur. This was probably the most difficult part of the change process in terms of staff embracement. 

The purpose of this post is not get get into the nitty gritty about grading reform as this has been well chronicled by practitioners that I greatly admire such as Joe Bower.  My purpose here is to illustrate how my staff and I addressed a broken component of our school culture and improved it.  Is our current philosophy and associated grading practices perfect? Of course not, but the change that was initiated is much more aligned with the learning needs of our students.  The new philosophy is now an expectation for all. Below is the grading philosophy that was created and adopted at the end of last year.  I encourage and look forward to any comments or reflective feedback that you might have.

Grading Philosophy

No zeros: Students should not be assigned a grade of zero (0).  This not only reflects grading as punishment, but also creates a hole that students cannot dig out of (Gusskey, 2000, Reeves, 2004, Reeves, 2008, O’Conner and Wormeli, 2011).  This includes HW, quizzes, tests, projects, etc.  An exception to this would be cases that involved cheating, plagiarism, or a midterm/final exams no show.

Multiple forms of formal assessment: Marking period grades have to be comprised of multiple forms of assessment.  We need to avoid the “marking period killer” assignment, which is one project, test, or other assignment that will make or break a student’s grade (Reeves, 2008).

Failure floor:  As per HS grading practices detailed in the current student handbook, a 64 or below is failing.  As a result, all failing grades should be entered between the ranges of 50 – 64 in PowerSchool.  Any grade 64 or below is a variation of an “F”, which indicates that the student has not met basic standards for learning (O’Conner & Wormeli, 2011). A failure floor of 50 has been established (lowest score inputted into PowerSchool for quarter, midterm, and final exam grades).  This allows students to recover from a poor quarter and/or midterm exam grade and gives him/her the appropriate motivation to complete the course successfully.  If a student fails your class you will be asked to provide the following:

• Evidence that is appropriately documented on the progress report.
• Documented contact (email, phone) with the parent/guardian no later than midway through the marking period. If contact cannot be made (disconnected phone, no answer/response) notify main office so we can update information in PowerSchool.
• Extra help (sign-in sheet) attendance logs.  This should contain dates, printed student names, and actual student signatures.
• Evidence of a face-to-face meeting with the parents/guardians and guidance counselor. The teacher and guidance counselor must schedule this.
• Evidence of an improvement plan (re-takes, alternate assignments, other indicators that measure learning).
• Determination of whether or not the student(s) is in crisis and using this information to work with him/her in a different way.  If this is the case submit a referral to the I&RS team.
• Documented use of the Change in Progress form if a student begins to struggle academically after progress reports.

Retests: Student success in that they have mastered the concepts and are able to apply what they have learned is of utmost importance.  Giving students a second chance on a test provides them with yet another opportunity to demonstrate learning.   It is up to the teacher to determine if a student warrants a retest.

How to Connect to a FTP Server with an Android Device

You’ve probably wondered if there was a way to transfer files between your server and your mobile device on the road, where no computer is available.

Well, this will definitely solve that. You will learn how to transfer files between a FTP server and your Android device with a free app called: AndFTP.

Difficulty level: Easy

1. Download and install the app from the Android Market.


2. Open the app.


3. The first time you launch the app, it will ask you to type in the information of the server you would like to connect to. Type in your server address, user name, password, and port (usually 21).


4. Touch the connect button.


5. It will now attempt a connection to the server. If the connection is successful, you will now see the files in your server, as well as the files on your mobile device.


6. To transfer files, simply touch the file, touch “transfer” and it will move the remote selected fold

4 ways to take a screenshot

So, you know how to snap an image of your iPhone’s screen—but what if you want to take a screenshot of your Mac’s desktop?
Well, there are actually four ways to snap a screenshot on your Mac, and they’re all just a few keystrokes away.

1. Take a screenshot of the entire screen

Press and hold the SHIFT, COMMAND, and NUMBER 3 keys, and an image file of the screenshot will appear on your Mac’s desktop.

2. Copy an image of the entire screen to your Mac’s clipboard

Press and hold CONTROL, SHIFT, COMMAND, and the NUMBER 3 keys to snap a screenshot and copy it to your Mac’s clipboard, perfect for pasting the image (COMMAND + V) into another document.

You can take a screenshot of just a portion of your Mac’s screen; press and hold Shift, Command, and the number 4 key, then click and drag.

3. Take a screenshot of a selected area of the screen

Want to capture an image of, say, just a single corner of your Mac’s desktop, rather than the entire screen?
Press and hold the SHIFT, COMMAND, and NUMBER 4 keys; when you do, your mouse pointer will turn into a target.
Click, hold and drag your mouse over the area you’d like to capture, then release the mouse button. Your screenshot will appear as an image file on your desktop.

4. Copy an image of a selected area of the screen to your Mac’s clipboard

Same basic idea as the command above, except you’re copying a picture of the selected screen area to your Mac’s clipboard.
Press and hold CONTROL, SHIFT, COMMAND, and the NUMBER 4 keys, then paste the screenshot into a document by pressing COMMAND + V.

Bonus tip

Having a hard time pressing and holding all those keys? You can create new, easier keyboard shortcuts for taking screenshots from the Keyboard preferences pane.
Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of the screen, select System Preferences, click the Keyboard icon, then click the Keyboard Shortcuts tab.
From here, you can tweak all kinds of keyboard shortcut settings—including those for screenshots. Just click the “Screen Shots” heading in the left column to get started. (I went ahead and picked the F5 key for snapping a screenshot of the whole screen.)

Why Do You Blog A Students Perspective

The following is a guest post by New Milford High School sophomore Sarah Almeda. After learning about her Chemistry blog titled Avogadro Salad I asked her to share some insight on the importance of blogging from a students perspective. I was so blown away by what she wrote below that I went against my long standing personal policy of not following my students on Twitter. Lol, jk. (That’s, “laughing out loud, just kidding” in teenspeak, that fictional language adults seem scared of...?)

I’m Sarah Almeda, a sophomore at New Milford High School. Somehow, I can have twitter conversations with my teachers and my principal. Somehow, they led to Mr. Sheninger giving me the opportunity to write a guest post on the importance of student blogging. I’m a blogger at heart, as I have been since 4th grade. That’s probably why I was actually excited when my chemistry teacher, Ms. Smith, opened the year by telling us that part of our assessment in the course  would be the regular maintenance of a blog.  This included posts twice a week that connect chemistry to our world.

Now, I’ve posted almost daily to a personal blog for years and I’m grateful for the decision. I’m told I’m a very good writer. I’m not trying to boast; my writing visibly improved when I started blogging and I can tell you why.  Teens turn to the internet for validation, myself included. Why? When I post to my blog, I don’t write to impress a teacher. My audience is the World Wide Web, which is literally worldwide. I attract viewers from all around the globe. When a post gets attention, some views, likes, comments, or even subscriptions, I look at the post and think, Wow; I had some valid ideas that a complete stranger could relate with. What did they like? How do I turn these visitors into regular readers? When a post gets no attention, I then think, What would be more interesting? What will lead viewers to my blog? How do I get a response? 

Rather than having a teacher hammer the importance of good writing into my head, I get to feel it in a very real world situation with immediate feedback. I don’t just learn about writing, either. Yesterday, my friends were genuinely interested to hear me talk about how one day our phones may literally be coated with nanodiamonds. I learned that from an article I blogged about. Now I’m always learning a great deal about topics that I decide are interesting to blog about, like the chemistry behind a bad hair day. Not to mention that my chemistry blog is a blessing for someone whose homework always seems to disappear rather inopportunely. I can put an assignment on my blog in the “Homework" category, protect it from copycat classmates, and email the password to Ms. Smith so she can view it whenever she needs to.  Not convinced yet? I learned HTML coding when finding ways to better format blog posts, and it’s become a very useful skill. 

A personal blog’s also the perfect place to vent my feelings. After articulating my emotions to an Internet audience, I realize I’m better understanding myself.  In an Internet world where that wretched teenspeak is the preferred language on nearly all social media platforms (bc my insta captions/ tumblr posts r like so articulate lol jk idec) blogging is a practice that expands learning way beyond the walls of the classroom. It encourages self-improvement and dedication in a way that I don’t believe can be taught as well as it can be experienced. And its addictively fun!

So, pull a Ms. Smith move! Teach kids to blog! Start one yourself! Trust me, you’ll find the time, you’ll find the passion, you’ll find out a lot about the world, and you might even find out more about yourself.  And watch out for me! How to shrink a photo before sending it via email

Sandra writes: I sent a photo from my iPad to my Virgin email. The photo came out very large even though it was a JPEG. Could you please advise what I can do [to make it smaller]? The iPad is an iPad 3.
Hi Sandra! I must admit, I was a little puzzled when I first read your question.
After all, doesn’t the iPad automatically ask you whether you’d like to shrink a large, about-to-be-emailed photo, just like the iPhone does?
I gave it a try with my own iPad 3, and lo and behold: no pop-up asking if I really want to send a massive, multi-megabyte photo as an email attachment.
Instead, my iPad just pasted the full-size snapshot (1.3 megabytes, to be exact) into my email message and sent it, no questions asked.

Yes, you can shrink a photo before sending it via email on the iPad, provided you know where to tap.

So, what gives?
Well, it turns out you can reduce the size of a photo attachment before hitting the “Send” button, provided you know where to tap.
Here’s how…

• First, let’s dive into the iPad’s Camera Roll in the Photos app, and find a great snapshot to send as an email attachment. Got one? Tap the Share button (it’s the one in the top-right corner of the screen, with a curved arrow), then tap the Mail icon.
• Your iPad will automatically paste your photo (or photos, if you selected more than one) into a blank email message. Go ahead and fill in the “To:” and “Subject” lines, and add a message in the body of the email if you wish.
• Now, here’s the trick: see the “CC/BCC” line, just below the “To” line? Look over to the right, and you’ll see a little text that reads “Images: 1.3 MB” (the size will vary depending on the image). Tap the “CC/BCC” line to expand it—and suddenly, you’ll see a series of four “Image Size” options: Small, Medium, Large, and Actual Size. Tap one of the buttons to shrink the photo down to size.
• All set? Go ahead and tap the “Send” button.

Create a calendar event or contact directly from email

An invite to a can’t-miss event just landed in your inbox, and you want to mark it in your iPhone’s calendar before you forget—and while you’re at it, you’d like to add the sender’s name to your address book.
Well, good news: you’re just a few taps away from saving the date in your iPhone’s (or iPad’s) Calendar app, or from creating a new entry in your Contacts app—all directly from the original email message.
Here’s how…

Create a calendar event from email

• Open the email, look for the date and time (which should already be highlighted in blue by your iPhone), tap it, then tap the “Create Event” button from the slide-up window. Once you do, an “Add Event” window will appear with the salient details already filled in.

Once you tap the “Create Event” button, an “Add Event” screen will appear with the salient details already filled in.


• Go ahead and edit the new event or add more information (such as a location or a reminder), then tap the “Done” button. You’re all set!
• You can also tap “Show in Calendar” to see if you’re free during that time slot, or “Copy” to copy the date and time to the iPhone’s virtual clipboard.

Create a contact

• Go to the top of the email, tap the name you’d like to save in the “From:” field, and then tap the “Create New Contact” button.
• A new contact form will appear with the name and email fields completed. Edit or add more details as you see fit, then tap the “Done” button.

E learning and Canned Instruction A Contradiction in Terms

Not all online education programs are the same. Currently, most conversations on the topic on online education are oversimplified.  Complexities must be addressed on this topic for a true critical assessment of online education to actually happen.

The first significant distinction that must be considered for the conversation about online learning to be valid is that between synchronous and asynchronous instruction.  In synchronous or live online instruction, students and teachers log on together in the virtual classroom. This is pure -- unfiltered by reflection -- interaction and in this live setting the social element of learning is not compromised.
 The exceptional moment occurs in meaningful inspiration and encouragement in the timber and inflection of a voice, in the subtleties of harmony of thought process in synchronous time and the authentic epiphany.

The teacher cannot be factored out of the equation of learning. Teaching in the moment is quite different from the packaged/canned asynchronous learning environment -- particularly in terms of critical discourse. Canned/pre-packaged curriculum with asynchronous online education does not embrace reflection in the way that Web 2.0 tools – like collaborative sites such as discussion boards  and online presentation tools – do and curation sites  -- like Pinterest -- do.  Synchronous fosters expression and  non- pre-packaged asynchronous encourages reflection – both elements of the learning process are necessary ones. . Oversimplification of the definition of online learning is not helpful to anyone and it seems that online learning has a negative connotation that it does not deserve.
